I love the new fancy gradients¹ I can use for backgrounds. In fact, I tend to pick them 95% of the time. I would love to be able to set this as my default.

Yes, still holds true. And I think this gets new users faster to a nice looking shareable space.

right now i think the easiest place to add a toggle for this would be under settings → controls → ‘new spaces’
with a checkbox button named something like [background is gradient]

Yeah I think those two settings are one. And under Controls makes more sense than Theme. But I can see why it’s under theme.

So if we were starting from scratch I’d probably not put them under theme , so I might move that out to the new space settings too
