“spaces created” has no number before it. “3 spaces” has no word between 3 and spaces to indicate what changed. Not sure what “3 explore spaces” means.
do you have images turned off in your email client? those should be little gifs with the words ‘new’ and ‘updated’
…well that’s embarrassing, images not being loaded was the problem. I don’t load images in my email client by default. I’m used to there being a “broken image” kind of graphic in place of images that weren’t loaded, but I guess they don’t always show up.

possibly in this case, the image size being so small prevented the “broken image” icon
