If an image has a transparent background, maybe render it as transparent even when an image is manipulated (moved)? It would make it easier to position images.

Interesting. I had thought of this too, wherein background-less images could look and work more like stickers than images.
It could be interesting. But how not to introduce more complexity and inconsistent behaviour? I don`t envy @pirijan :D. So many things to consider.
Alternativelly, if @pirijan implements some data- attributes in HTML, you would be able to use custom CSS extension and hide parts you don`t need :).
