Drag to select zoom/scroll on mini map

Would be cool to be able to drag a box on the mini map, and upon releasing the mouse, the canvas zooms to that exact zoom/scroll point. Maybe a modifier key to create that box, similar to how selection boxes can be created with a modifier key on the canvas?

hmm it seems like a lot of work for a unique interaction that would be super non discoverable/expected…

what’s the use case?

I’d use it all of the time. If I pull up the mini map it’s because I’m looking for something. Once I find it on the map, it feels very intuitive for me to be able to “lasso” just the section I’m looking for and have it show up perfectly in front of me.

Despite being a canvas, working with Kinopio is more akin to a document than an infinitely zoomable interface (like figma). Card names (setting aside headings) are a single font size. Because of this design decision, the majority of use cases keeps the zoom at 100% (or something readable), as opposed to arbitrary or multiple zoom levels because the focus is more on the content.

It makes sense to me to have a toggle to zoom out to quickly navigate and orient, and then zoom back to 100% to work with the content.

Even that might be nice — zooming to 100% upon clicking a particular box. What I find weird is when I’m zoomed all the way out, I click on a box in the mini map, and basically nothing happens (because the box is already on the screen). Would feel better to click the box and for it to zoom to 100% with that box right in front of me (and I mentioned this in another thread but positioning the box at 0,0 feels weird because there are Kinopio icons covering the top left corner of the window… so maybe the box comes up with some kind of offset from the top left corner (not sure about this)).
