from stella via email,
I have another query, possible feature request. I’d like a board to open with a particular card in the centre of the screen. That way I can place the ‘homepage’ / home card in the middle, and people can freely move around in all directions to see everything else. Rather than having to start every space in the top left. I’ve tried using the Share option on a card to get a direct link, but it kind of opens it in edit mode? Really I want the card closed when someone visits, and maybe it does that thing where the card flashes green to draw your attention to it? Or maybe it should have the card selected? So the link is like a link to a selection with just that card selected, and the page is centred on the selection?
Here’s the card I want to link to by the way: Kinopio – Thinking Canvas
a general question for everyone would be that when you use a card link do you ever want the link to open to the carddetails, or would you prefer to just highlight the card without opening it in all cases?
I want the card link to simply navigate to the card. It’s never felt right to me that it puts me in edit mode because in almost every use case, I clicked on the link to go to the card, not edit it. And if I want to edit it, it is easy and natural to then click on it.
The way I use card links is to be able to represent the same concept across multiple areas in a space and even across spaces. I would normally be going to the original card to see its context, so putting it in edit mode gets in the way of that.

the reason for opening the carddetails is so incase you miss the opening animation , you’ll still see the opened card. but if the animation + selection color is enough then it makes sense to change the behaviour so that it never opens card details

I wish the opening animation lingered longer. Right now it feels too quick and easy to miss. What if it were an animation that throbs and continues until you interact with a card?
I don’t like it going directly to editing the card either because it makes it feel delicate. As I mentioned, my intention when I click on a card link is almost never to edit.
