Bad syncing in space (with a space id and console logs, at long last)

Hello! I finally have a space which seems to have multiple versions that I can feel comfortable sharing. Here it is:

On my end, I took this screenshot (refreshing, just to make sure I was seeing the current version):

In the meantime, my conversational partner Joey took this one:

And now, weirdly enough, it seems to have reverted even further. I’m not sure what the canonical server will say. Did Joey’s end not save properly? Am I not loading? What’s going on? Anyway I hope having the space link will help clarify.

oddly, i can still see it! (even tried refreshing, though i just realized maybe it’s cached or something in my browser)

I asked him to take a look at it on his end again, and this is what he said to me

oooo interesting yeah in incognito i can’t see any of my responses (even the first batch)

So it seems he has locally cached versions of his messages that came through to me, temporarily, but are now gone? I’m requesting his console logs now, I’ll paste them below.

Joey’s console log:

message.txt (17.0 KB)

It’s a little odd. He shouldn’t have been able to make cards in that space at all, maybe? He made regular cards in a “comment only” space, so I wonder if those cards were deleted for that reason – i.e. that he was not supposed to be able to make them? But they absolutely did make it through the tubes to my side of the web, albeit in a slightly funky state.

Thx for this ! Haven’t dived into it yet but I will soon

How did they join the space , did you give them an invite link or just the regular space url?

Was this their first time using Kinopio? I’d fixed a bug that let commenters appear to make cards in read only spaces near the beginning of the week so if they used the app before and didn’t refresh update the app (they should’ve seen update notifications in the bottom corner) then this could happen from that

Yes, it was!

I gave them the regular space URL. Sounds like it was the commenter thing.

hmm so to simulate a first time user, i create an incognito window and open your space. As expected the space appears ‘read only’ with a notification telling me to ‘sign up to edit’ . In this scenario, Joey would need to have an account before he could leave comments.

So then in the incognito window with your space open, I tried signing up for a new account, and then after the sign up process was completed, I was able to leave regular comment cards. Which were correctly synced.

Is there something about this scenario that maybe Joey did differently that caused him to inadvertently be able to edit? My main guess right now is that for some reason Joey loaded an old version of the client app from earlier in the week that did have a related sounding bug.

Another thing you could try would be creating a new comment only space and sending it to joey, and without writing anything serious in it, see if new cards save, let me know what console errors he sees if any when he creates a new card.

If things don’t save correctly, you should expect to see a logs warning message that starts with:

:ambulance: non-critical serverOperationsError operation
